I think I'll give it a try in a couple weeks while I'm adding all the other parts I've been accumulating. Still a couple more things to order once Uncle Sam sends me my money back.
Probably not behind the cowbell. That seems to hang too low.

I'll put the horn somewhere else.
fits perfect with the coil sideways at the widest part of the cowbell though, just gotta fab a bracket that fits the bolt holes for the coil

Yeah, it fits inside the cowbell perfectly. I meant the cowbell itself hangs a bit lower and farther out than what I had in mind.
I'll probably work up some sort of bracket to attach it directly to the top mount or something ... so it tucks up better between the jugs under the tank. I saw a picture of one done that way on a Softail, but I can't remember where.

yeah i was following a thread from the softail section when i took a run at it.
just wasn't totally committed to f*ckin around with wiring at that point
whatever you do though, i think you're gonna have to have the coil sit out a little bit from the jugs because of the heat. at least that was my thinking.
Oh, definitely will at least have it out far enough to be in the airstream along the side of the engine. And will use some sort of spacers on the mount (maybe teflon) so it's not directly contacting hot metal.
