Default Coil Relocation?

I was wondering .. is there a reason why you don't see Dynas with the coil relocated like many Softail owners have done?

I've seen a couple setups that look pretty nice either under the cowbell or elsewhere, and I'm thinking about doing something similar if possible.

I've only seen Dyna riders move their horns to get rid of the cowbell altogether but they still have the cables running across to the engine.

I was curious if someone more knowledgeable would know if it was some mechanical or electrical concern or just the vibrations of the rubber-mounted engine messing up the coil or something.

Because the Softail owners are more concerned with adding doodads than riding.

REALLY...? When I relocated the horn and the coil it was to REMOVE the center post. BUT THEN I DON'T UNDERSTAND TECHNICAL TERMS SUCH AS "doodads"

It was a joke....There's and inch of ice in the trees and 8-24 inches of snow on the way. Nothing better to do than be a wise guy right now.

After reading a few threads, I'd say jump in there and try it. I remember some threads from many months ago regarding this mod, so I know it's been done. It might be a good opportunity for you to post a write up to show others how to do it. I did notice that some of the Softail guys were talking about switching wires on the connector, so I'd do my research first.

Default blackline coil location

I'd be more concerned about overheating the coil than looks. Between the two cylinders is a neat arrangement and I do like the ignition key located above the coil makes easy to hold the front brake on with the right hand and the bike is on a hill. Hard to hold the foot brake, balance the ride and work the neck located ignition key all at the same time on like my SB.

this is one of the mods i wana tackle this winter.

relocate horn to the trash, relocate coil behind my horn cover in between the cylinders.

i dug into it a few weeks ago, but stopped and put it all back together when i realized i wasn't ready to extend and re-route some wiring.

post up if you decide to do it man

I couldn't find anything about it in the "Under $50" thread. I'd be interested too...It might give me an idea to free up some room where the coil currently is to put a little box there to keep registration and insurance or anything else in.

greenstreet bob... not to hijack the thread but on my SB I put my papers in a ziploc bag and put them in the cover for the fuse box... there is a brace in there that the bag slides in nicely... away from the fuses and connectors but safely and discretely stashed away...
