after droping my bike off for winter storage at my local harley dealer i was informed that theres a ticking sound coming from my top end. the tech there said it could be the risers? but they wont know till they look into it more, anyone out there know what it could be and how much it could cost
thanks
If it were my bike, and i dropped it off for winter storage, i gotta believe i would of noticed a ticking noise before i dropped it off ? I have never owned a Harley that did not make a little top end [ sewing machine] noise. Is it possible your Harley shop is trying to drum up a little business during the slow winter months ? Having not heard your " ticking noise" myself, i certainly cannot rule out you could have an issue with it BUT, i would not rule out the possibility your dealer is looking to make a buck?
How many miles on your bike ?
Has it been making unusual noises recently ? Its your bike and you would know better than anyone else.
If its at the dealer, anything they do will end up costing about $1000. But I agree with what the others have said...there may be nothing wrong. You need to go to the dealer and listen to the bike. If they have another 01 in the shop, (or any bike similar to yours, with similar engine mods....if any) have a listen to that for comparison.
What type of oil are you running? There have been a number of posts that say if you use sync oil you will hear more valvetrain noise. I have noticed that myself with my bike.

I use amsoil in all three and if anything all is more quiet. Not meaning to advertize for amsoil, but it works well for me.
O jeez I hope we don't start another oil discussoin here! lol

The risers? An exhaust leak or valve train issues will tick.
i do not have a warrenty, i do remember a small tick when i droped it off kinda like a sewing machine but it was very small and i thaught nothing of it. i gave the tech permision to look into it but it wont be till they go to put on my new bars n turn signal relocators
