Just recently I notice twiced on my last ride across town something that has never happened before. I was in slow traffic going along in 1st gear for awhile (probably a 1/3 of a mile) at about 2600rpms.
As I came to a stop my engine idle stayed higher than the normal lug lug. I rolled my thottle thinking it had stuck but it was at bottom out of rotation. But it kept idling fast. It did this on two different stops and then went away.
Any ideas what would cause this ?
My 2010 FXDC did the same thing under nearly identical conditions late last spring. I only had about 700 miles on it at the time. Can't explain it. I rolled the throttle on and back off a couple of times, but that didn't reduce the idle. Pulled in the drive 20 seconds later, and all was normal. Happened once more during the summer. Again, same conditions.
I'm not certain, but the idle speed seemed to be the same higher than normal idle speed I see while coasting with the clutch in, or between shifts.
These will suck in oil vapors from the heads and that could foul the IAC metering valve. When you clean it turn the ignition off and on a few times, this will will move the little needle in there. That was my first thought when you described the problem.
ok, do we have a solution. RWB...did ya fix this problem??? interested in knowing if the High Idle was cause of the IAC or another problem altogether
Yes almost all of it went away. I sprayed carb cleaner (from the local parts store) inside the throttle body and let it sit awhile. Then I sprayed it again (and then brushed around in there with a toothbrush). Then sprayed again, and wiped it out dry with a clean rag.
Then ever since I've been putting 2 squirts (a low dosage) of fuel stabilizer in each fill up. I think I noticed the idle staying a little high one time since and it did not last long before it dropped back down.
It's something I will be doing on some maintenance checks from now on.
Hi RWB
I had this problem on my 07 Superglide, along with intermittent stalling for no reason as well.
Did a lot of research and tried everything you did and more, all of which almost fixed the problem, then came across this Tech bulletin on the net.
An ECM upgrade with the latest calibrations and a recallibration of the throttle position sensor voltage as described in the bulletin fixed it completely.
Unfortunately this had to be done by the HD dealer.
Ive attached a text version of the bulletin, hope it fixes your problem completely.
Regards,
Jeff.

Thanks Jeff, I saved it to my bike folder stuff. I have not ever had a problem with stalling but I read it and saved it. My bike (bought used) came with a SE stage 1 dealer loaded map, but I don't know if they had updated the maps by early 2008 (for said problem).
In any case I am trying to get the money to buy TTS MasterTune which allows the entire ECM remapped. Anyhow thanks for taking the time to give me this. Later.....RWB
