You bring up a very good point about how we used to run such tiny air filters on our V8 engines. The K&N's that I run now on my big V8 hot rods are huge by comparison. My 383 Chevy stroker is running a 9" wide by 5" tall one. I remember running somewhere around 8" wide by 2" tall on a few 327's back in the day, maybe as small as 6" x 1-1/2". Larger air cleaners were available, but not knowing better, I bought what I could afford back in highschool, anything to get rid of that stock black snorkle.

At any rate, I bought the Arlen Ness Big Sucker 1 for my stage 1 mods. When I did the 107 build, I added the Wimmer kit. My intake plate is still Ness, but my air filter is the deeper Wimmer.
