Default SE255 or SE203 in FXDWG

I have the choice of installing either the 255 or 203 cams into my 2008 Wide Glide. I do one-up touring, very conservative on the throttle, (ride sanely), and I'm wondering if people who have used either cams or better yet, tried both could give me their opinions. I know there are a lot better cams out there but these are in my possession.
Thanks again.

I thought the 203 was for the older style chain.

That's what I thought Paul but they look like the newer designed models and have SEH-203 stamped on them. There is also a current part number from Harley but I don't have it handy.

My 07 Street Bob has the 255s. Nice accel without the downshift. You won't win any EXTRA drag races, but it's something you can feel when the cams turn on in the upper mid-range. No complaints from here about the 255s.

What's wrong with the stock cams? They are really good all-round cams; power throughout the range.

You need to figure out where or if you want to move the power, cos that's mostly what some different cams are going to do for you. Most shove the power up the revs at the expense of just where it sounds like you want it based on your riding description: the 1000-3000 rpm range .

The 255's will bring in more power in a lower RPM range than stock. It has a 25* IVC [Intake Valve Close] the stock cams are 30*IVC.

I understand your post Foxster, but I should've mentioned that I find myself constantly shifting gears to get the powerband working in corners and hills, (lots here in western Canada). I would hope that with the bagger cams selection I mentioned that shifting will be less. Maybe I'm wrong but after riding my '06 Goldwing for 5 years now, I find the HD isn't very forgiving when coming into a corner, the Goldie has so much available power I can pretty well leave it in 5th after 38-40mph and forget it. This Dyna is a California bike and I'm told by a dealer here that the cams are even more wimpy than stock. Maybe I'm wrong there too, haha.
Thanks

I am in the same boat, DeneFXDWG.
I have a 2010 FXDB, and I am debating putting in SE255s in hope of lower torque for the roads I ride on.

So you have a dealer there that told you the SE255 was weaker than the the stock cam huh?

No, no dealer told me that in those words, but a dealer in the interior of B.C. told me that my California FXDWG has cams in it that are next to useless and he recommended a SE-204. One engine builder in town here says that the 255's are great for a Dyna with my riding style, I doubt my bike has ever seen 5,000 rpm's since I've owned it. There is the theory as to why are there a ton of 255's for sale on eBay and hardly ever a used TW6-6, 37h, 54h or SE-204, the list goes on, so I guess they are not for everybody.

Lots of 255s because they come in the SEs and the SE kits. Many riders with more cubes want more cam to go with the cubes. Many like the 255s in 96 cubes.
