Yes you have to adjust the clutch behind the derby cover when ever you relieve tension on the cable with the cable adjustment nuts. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here but I bet that's your problem.

Thanks for the tips...and the links. I will review. On looking for info for this problem, I found another forum member thread who suggested that maybe the clutch cable may have been pinched by one of the lift arms. Is this possible? Seems CRAZY to route the clutch cable under the bike but what do I know. (Obviously not much. LOL)
You don't really have to adjust the clutch itself because it is already tightened down with a lock nut so it really just stays in position but the wreck could have loosened it and I really didn't equate that till now but it's a good idea to check out and inspect

Yes it is VERY possible the cable was pinched by the lift. I make it a habit to check that anytime I put the bike on the lift, BEFORE lifting.
Order a new cable so you will have it in when you return from the trip. It can't hurt to have a second one on hand if the current one ends up being fine.
