hey guys, im new to the riding scene. just bought my first motorcycle last year 2010 fxdb and am looking into putting exhaust on. my question is just what exactly is involved in it what parts ect . . i ordered a set of short shots from v&h. and am looking at pcv for a tuner. and i going in the right direction? how easy to install/diy?
took me 3 hours doing all alone after work, PCV, Pipes and A/C. Had to do a couple things twice because i forgot loctite too. Get some new gaskets and youre all set.
Yeah man its a DIY install if you have even a small amount of wrench turning abilty, just follow the instructions, And for the PCV check out Fuel Moto USA, they are one of the site sponsors! It comes pre-tuned for what you have done to your ride and if you change anything later on down the road give them a shout and they'll send ya a new map. Also the gaskets that were mentioned are for the exhaust ports. 'where your pipes enter the heads". around 5 bucks a piece.
awesome thank you. i purchased the arlen ness big sucker a/c, and i gave fuel moto a ring and liked what they had but i also went to the local harley shop and talking to one of the guys he said he wouldn't recommend a pre turned tuner, and also kind of talked me out of the pcv in general talking about he wouldnt trust a tuner that stays one the bike its just another thing thatll break, and if it was to fail out on a ride id be s.o.l. and he was really pushing the hd one. he has it on his bike it worked directly with the stock ecm or something and the tuner doesn't stay with the bike its just used to remap it. and if it was to ever go faulty just had to stop in a local hd shop and get it repaired for almost nothing as to if it was the pcv get charged around 450? now im kind of up in the air about a tuner. Does any one have opinions or recommendations about a tuner their using or have used?
The PCV can be dynoed, dont listen to that other jerkoff. Depending on what HD tuner you get you cant adjust anything. The PCV is adjustable by yourself with a laptop. Do the PCV from Fuel moto. You will not regret it. I got new pipes a year after getting my PCV from them and got a new map in 2 days through email.
BY other jerkoff i mean the guy from the harley shop. Find yourself a good independant shop and stay with them HD will always reccomend the HD products or V&H. Not that they are bad products but there are limitless other companies making stuff as good if not better.

Check close on them HD programers. My understanding is they have 2 of them now. 1 can only be downloaded with factory programs...which means lean burning to keep epa happy. The other HD tuner has some type of auto tune while you ride. Have heard good about that setup. Think there is thread about it if you do a search.
Be sure to change them exhaust gaskets at the heads. They may look like they are not any when you remove your pipes ,but they are there. Had to use a pick to remove mine. Just take your time and enjoy working on your own bike,it's not a hard job. Good luck
