Default Bent rim options??

Hello, I have a 1999 FXDX Dyna Super Glide Sport and the front rim is bent a bit. Its a 19x2.50. Want to replace it with a stock wheel but aftermarket might be the way to go? I have a nice aluminum dual disk hub. Thought about finding a new rim "43001-79 and putting some stainless spokes on it. This is a dual disk narrow glide. Aftermarket in the lower price range is $200-$350. I'm just afraid to buy this stuff and have the chrome start peeling. Another choice is to find a nice used one but haven"t had any luck so far. You guys have any good suggestions for a reasonable priced aftermarket wheel that won't fall apart or rust in a couple years?? Or should I go with option one and try to rebuild my own? I can lace it. Haven't worked in a while so cash is a bit tight. A suggestion on a good rim too?? Or is an oem Harley rim the way to go?? Thanks.

If you're not working, your biggest asset is you, your labor is what's needed. Buy a rim from the folks at Biker's Choice(never had a chrome peeling issue with them). They have a chrome 19x2.50 rim for $83.95. A set of Buchanan spokes(from diamond cut to stainless) for about $100 bucks and lace it yourself. It's helpful to have a service manual but not a must. If you're unsure about it, use your camera/phone and take detailed pics of your wheel to go back and visualize what you're doing. It's really not that hard.

Hey man,

I am having a set of stock mags powdered right now for my 2000 FXDX. When they are back I am swapping out my mint condition stock spokes (6k on them) for them, don't know how long you are willing to wait but I will have the set of laced stockies for sale within a month or two. I would prefer to sell as a set, but we can talk

Ya its been slow workwise this year. Searching and reading posts has kind of scared me from the aftermarket chrome. Hearing how it peels. That would just be a waist of cash. I"ve been hearing good on the Buchanan spokes. How about the Bikers Choice spokes and hub chrome? Any problems there? I have a Harley factory Dyna manual but get this... It shows the 16" rear and 21" front lacing but nothing on the 19". And the 19 has its own hub.. I think the 21" would be the closest to follow.

That would be sweet but I think Harley changed the bearings and maybe axle size in 2000?? Mines a 1999 with tapered bearings and I belive yours are a sealed bearing? Also I have 3/4" axles and some where down the line they went to a 1".

.

Bobby, I have Bikers Choice rims on one of my bikes i've had for 7 years with no chrome peeling. They are made by Excel which has been great company to me and my customers. when you look at your wheels, regardless of whether it's a 16,18,19,21 and so on, see if they are all laced the same way on your bike. you'll be suprised as they should be the same. Follow the guide lines in your manual the same way. I'm sorry work has been slow for you and hope it picks up for you.
