Riding home from work Friday night and felt the bike sort of wobble at about 25 mph, felt like my rear tire was going flat so i pulled over to check it. Everything looked good, so i got back on it and rode on home with no other issues.
Got up Saturday and put my Superglide up on my Jack and took a good look at everything.I spun the rear tire around, checked it for any lateral movement etc, everything seemed fine, i then cranked it up while on the jack [J&S JACK] and put it in gear and watched the rear wheel spin around, and everything looked and sounded good etc.Checked motor mounts, exhaust, and everything else i could think of, all looked fine.
I took it for a ride and it felt great for a few miles, then after taking off slowly after the light turned green i got a wobble again, and i was only about 100yrds from a local indy shop....I pulled her on over and talked with one of the owners sons that works there...He said let me pull your rear wheel off real quick, and check your rear wheel bearings, and he asked me how many miles on the bike. I told him its a 2008 with 25000 miles. He then told me its probably going to be the bearings then, he said he has changed a bunch of em recently...
He put it up on the lift real quick and pulled the rear wheel off etc....Lo -behold the Bearings were bad.He put in new bearings and then put the wheel back on, adjusted belt etc....Charged me 40 dollars ! That was a heck of a deal in my opinion. BDB bike shop in Niceville Florida is a good shop in my opinion, hard to find that kind of service on a Sat afternoon at 430pm....
Yes it did.......rode 104 miles today, no trouble's. The bearings were bad, it was pretty obvious the moment i looked at them. These newer Harleys use a smaller bearing than they used years ago, plus its a sealed bearing, which personally i do not like.I do 99% of my own wrenching, but was glad everything worked out the way it did Saturday,40 bucks was worth it.
BDB in Niceville does good work. They usually go far and beyond what is usual from anything you ask if they see it. They replaced my neck bearings and real wheel bearings for the cost of parts and 45 for the hour of labor!
Compared to prices over here that is the deal of a lifetime!! Bearings alone would cost me way over 40 bucks!
Seriously, that fix at HD or an indy wouldve set me back a minimum 500 bucks and no way it would've been done that quick. Heck, it would probably be cheaper to buy that wrench a plane ticket and get him to come here and fix it!
Gonna tuck this thread away in the old "good things to know about and fix meself" bookmark folder!!
