Got me excited to see what my bike has under the hood now. I did a 103 Stage III kit, MCR heads, and a 50mm throttle body. I have not had it dyno'd yet, but intend to soon.

I did this for a customer and we got 101HP and 108 Torque....once it was run in that is. I recommend 2000 miles minimum before the dyno run.

We used 255 Cams and V&H short shots.
If a tuner knows what he is doing, breaking a bike/new build in on a dyno can be done FAR more effeciently and safely on a dyno. He can keep track of the engine's temperature, fuel tables, and timing.

True!
Check out Motoman's method for breaking in engines. If done under heavy accelleration and engine braking, the rings will seat before the first 100 miles. The first 25 to 50 miles are critical for having an engine that makes power to it's full potential. The secret is to keep those rings under constant pressure, either under accelleration or hard engine braking.
The window of opportunity is short. Baby the engine early and it will never be a strong runner.
True and all but have you ever noticed how a Harley loosens up after a coupla thou miles? There is more to it than rings if its on new bores and pistons. Back in the day when we used to dyno as soon as possible we would always re-dyno them after a few thousand miles and then get extra HP and sweeter running, now I just dyno at 2,000 miles, saves money :-)
The kit is just called "103 stage 4" it is in Harleys racing catalog everything is included except the race tunner, heavy breather and exhaust which I had already done when I got the bike last year. The pipes are Vance and Hines Big Shots Staggered.
