Okay, I have researched a lot of old threads but I know that things change. What I am looking for is a quick detach windshield for my 2007 Street Bob before we make our trek to Sturgis in August. Who out there has some recommendations for me.
I am 5' 11"" and have a Mustang Wide Solo Seat. Ditched the stock bars and have Super Glide Bars with mid controls. I'm torn on the height as I know that to prevent buffeting I need to be able to see just over the top.
I think you will get buffeting no matter what as long as the windshield is mounted to the forks. I run as tall a windshield as harley sells and it keeps the bugs out of my mouth at night.
I have a 2006 super glide with both the HD quick release touring and also the HD quick release compact windshields, the touring I look through instead of over im 5-11" and the compact I look over, there is not much difference with the amount of buffeting with either of them. I keep both of them with the top adjusted forward, The buffeting on either one of them is really not that bad, to the point of helmet shaking ive read about with other riders. I just feel some air rising up behind them, but is not nearly as windy as riding without one. I usually find myself riding with out either locally but you cant beat the touring one on trips or highway riding or cold weather.
eBay. Lots to choose from. I just picked up a 100th Anniversary for my WG. Currently I have a sport shield that is just a bit too small. It is up about as high as it can be to cut down the blast in my face. It does shimmy a bit but no major buffeting.
I've got a Memphis Shades Rio Grande quick release sport shield and I'm 5'10 and it works great. I use it only on really long rides maybe once or twice a year but glad I have it in the garage when needed.
Also use a Mutang Vintage solo when going on thsoe long rides.

I was looking at this one the other day... nice to see what it actually looks like!
Go into your local stealership and ask them to get you their display sheild thing? They will set you on a similar bike and put the screen up and it's marked for inches. So you can look at the lines and decide which size you want. Then you go somewhere else and buy one so you can save a few hundred! On the other Street Bob Windshield posts on the site, I have read some cool ways to eliminate buffering after installing a shield also.
I have the HD standard. I swear it doesn't look that big in person, but if I'm going to put one on I guess I want one that works and this works. I only have it for the cold weather and rain. Tilting it forward cured a lot of my buffeting, but it really went away when I removed my visor on my half helmet. The wind gets diverted to your shins then up to your face with the HD shields. You can get some lowers I think from memphis shades to cure that or some from a softail. But here you go!!
