I GOTTA get the quiet baffles for these V/H big shots. Neighbors giving really dirty looks, setting off car alarms, mothers hiding their daughters, etc... I totally notice the increased torque from the A/C, pipe mods, will I lose a lot of HP with the baffles? Already ordered from DKirk, and not too expensive. Will they make much of a difference?
You gotta do what you gotta do. Love to ride and being able to spend money on the bike and not on tickets and court costs. Always have to find a balance...
You run whatever pipes/degree of loudness you're comfortable with. I like mine loud, but it's not for everybody, it's a personal thing. I hate to hear that you're (or it sounds like you are) only doing it to appease neighbors, but that's your call.
I have the quiet baffles in mine and they do sound a little lower in sound but not much. I actually like the lower sound better than the stock baffles. In general though the Big Shots are not that loud. I think that they are pretty comparable loudness wise to the Rush slip ons 1.75 that I had on my 2010 Iron.
db stands for decibels which are the measurement of sound pressure level or loudness. If you're only going to drop 3db most folks won't notice a difference. See if there is a local audio house or installer with a spl meter. You can usually find a local place that will let you drive the bike by and see how loud your current pipes are. It will give you an idea of how much you want to quiet down. I know some cities are enforcing loud pipe laws. Some as low as 85db. As for me, louder the better.
Running 1.75 baffels in the Rush, Perfect blend of quiet and noise.
I too have neighbors and ride in early.
Last bike had striaght pipes, they were loud setting of alarms and such.
I like the 1.75 because in town you stay low and on the open road let her roar.
With the baffels you keep your low end. I like that in traffic.
