The last set of bars I put on my bike were also drilled, but not dimpled. I just elongated the holes to run my wires externally. I'd run them internal, but at the rate I change bars and/or risers, I'll wait until I've settled on the right set-up.

The dimples are there just to keep you from crushing the switch wires. You can drill the older type bars but line up your levers and switch housings exactly where you want them located first. You want the hole drilled in the perfect place. And it is not a good idea to re-adjust the switch housings later on that type of set up because there is a chance of sheering the wires in two.

Handlebars ordered with the Dimples option come with Dimples similar to stock bars. The Dimples allow room for the wires to exit the control casing area. Dimples are the indentations on the 1983 and Later Stock Harley-Davidson bars. You will need to order bars with Dimples for your 1983 and Later Harley-Davidson unless you plan on internally wiring your new bars.

Not true. See posts 11 and 12 above. Been there, done it, no problem.

What is not true ? Does it not say that you need to (or should) run dimpled bars unless you are going to run your wires internally.
