Default FXR Wiring Debacle please help (pics)

So I just got this '92 FXR and it's in great shape....EXCEPT... I had to replace a rocker gasket and install seom indicator lights and...THATS WHERE THE TROUBLE STARTS!!!!!

ok...deep breath... the last owner mickey moused the wiring!!!! he took off the front turn signals, took off the headlight visor, and stuffed all the wires under the tank!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!

So i bought some individual indicator lights from Radio Hack and started looking into getting this thing LEGAL and getting the lights in order.
After I take off the tank i see A NIGHTMARE!!!!!
A BUNCH of wires are simply CUT and others were haphazardly tied together.
Dilemma 1: Installing front Turn Sigs. It looks like the front turn sigs should be the Green and Orange wires. Old owner tied A BUNCH of the ORANGE and GREEN wires together (see pic) and then cut the others. When I try to install a front sig its ON ALL THE TIME (I must have a wrong wire connected?).
I tried connecting a light to the cut GREEN AND ORANGE wires but NOTHING HAPPENS when I turn on the signals. ugh.
Dilemma 2: In one pic U can see a PLUG from the harness that's attached to NOTHING....Anyone know what that is?
Dilemma 3: anyone know what color(s) the Oil Pressure wires are (for installing idiot light)?

I messed around for HOURS and can't figure this out! I also downloaded a wiring schematic but it's incredibly complicated and not very helpful.
ANY help would be appreciated!!!
THANKS

Can you send me a link to the schematics you downloaded? I would like to see if there is any difference between 92 and current, than it will be easy to help you out.

A buddy of mine bought a used fxr that had the same problem, previous owner hacked up the signal wires, I think he ended up buying a automotive type signal flasher and hid it under the seat to get his working. Pretty much ended up completely rewireing the turn signals.

Rene, I think if memory serves me HD changed color codes around 96 or 99 when the Twin Cam came out, but I could be wrong. Really would like to verify that first.

Richard,

Thanks for the heads-up...I posted the link to the 2001 wiring diagram after I checked the colors on this image...

.... showing some wires having the same colour, like:

orange = feed to oil and neutral light;
violet = feed to left turn signal
brown = feed to right turn signal
black = common ground to turn signal & high beam
white = feed to high beam
black/yellow = check engine low pressure
white/green = output speed
etc.

Using this info and a test light the op can check out the wire's functions...

Lol! I posted on the Evo forum last week about how every FXR I ever worked on had butchered wiring!!

I think that connector block goes to the speedo binnacle but it doesn't matter, just throw all the wiring away, buy a new loom or a heap of wire (pull the harness out of a wrecked car) and some connectors and wire it one wire at a time as per diagram in a manual...Haynes have really good wiring diagrams.

You will learn so much about your bike when you do this.

Its never a good idea to try to fix wiring that looks like that as you will be chasing problems forever.

I did one a few days ago that we had to put two flasher relays in to get the indicators to work. Customer couldn't afford a rewire but luckily he could afford a couple of hours of my time and I specialise in FXR wiring nasties....case of having to when I was broke-*** scooter trash back in the day :-)
