Default A couple of problems Changing Bars

I have some 13" apes I'm putting on a 07 FXD, I'm trying to get the connectors out of the backbone for the wiring. I got the left side out, but the right control and blinker are stuck. I loosened the tank up and slid it back, the U shaped piece of plastic under the tank had some wires clipped to the side, but the looked to be going to the injectors? I'm draining the tank now so I can take it off, when I look at the end of the backbone there's a large clump of wires exiting that seem like there shrink wrapped together... Any suggestions as to how to get the connectors out would be appreciated...

also moving the tank I broke the fuel line see picture, is that going to be an expensive part to replace??

I did the same thing with the fuel line. It isn't exspensive at all but they will more then likely have to order it.

The left side that came out had like 3" of slack on the side of the connector that goes down the back bone. The right side seems like it doesn't have any slack, the turn signal on the right came apart with just a slight pull on it.. This is aggravating

There should be enough slack on all the cables that the connector blocks come clear of the backbone, albeit its only 2-3" but should be clear.

For future reference, there is no need to remove the tank to swap bars. Just unbolt and slide it back. Leave the hoses connected.
The wires are folded up inside the neck, you just need to work them out.

The right side I guess is tangled up, I'll have t spend more time on it tomorrow.. I slid the tank back, but when I tried lifting to look under I broke the fuel line.. Now it seems the easiest way to fix that is taking it off..

The wire/blocks are "jammed" in as you will no doubt find out when you put them back. If you don,t take your tank off, you could as i did, lift the front of it and lock it there with a piece of wood wrapped in a cloth.

I just did my second internal wiring job on my bars and I just pull the rubber piece from the neck, cut the wires...add / remove wire and solder back up.

It's quick and since I had to add wire anyway, was the easiest for me to do.

Also, just get the stainless upgrade line for your fuel line...it was the same or pretty close to the same price as the stock piece when I priced mine.

Mine broke also when I tried to lift my tank before on a weekend...I was able to fix it with an end from a repair kit for cars...but still replaced it with the stainless when the dealer was open.

The line states for 04 - 05 but it fint my 06 so it will fit yours.

You should have a access panel in your rear fender to get to the backbone wiring harness. remove it and spray some wire lube in the back and front of the backbone, , gently pull back and forth to get the wiring bundles freed up. be patient and take your time there is enough length to pull it out the front. Over time the vibration tends to move all your connections further back.

I can see a large clump of wire exiting the backbone behind the battery box. I read something similar to what you said when I searched, but wonder if its different now on 06 and up dynas???
