Any of you guys have one of the digital speedo's (ie. Dakota) on your bike? What is the max speed it will measure? I would think it exceeds HD's 120 MPH speedo.

I have one, but don't yet know how high it will go. I haven't yet gone above 110. Maybe their brochure will tell you.

I got my Fat Bob up to 110, I have no windshield so I tried laying my head down on the tank and when I did, I swear my feet were wanting to come off the pegs. My Dad has a 110 ci Screamin Eagle Trike and I buried the speedometer. After 120 I don't how fast it was going.

Back in my racing days I made a few laps at Daytona on a TZ 750 Yam. Estimated speed in the banking was 190mph. Many hit well over 200 in them days.

ive had my 95 inch 05 fxdx pegged at 120 and still pulling hard, i'd say probably 130-140 mph bike... on the other hand the t sport with the 120r in it I dont know exactly how fast ive had it, no speedo but in 4th gear at about 4k rpm ive had it about 100 im guessing just by feel... might have to take the gps with me and see how fast it can really go. I'll bet 150 plus! it has pm mags and sputhe stabilzers and steering stabilizer so i should be good

Thumbs up

Seems to me like we all need a forum sponsored Dyna to head off to Bonneville and solve this question.

Just touched 112 MPH on my fat bob yesterday. Had to back off, or else I would have gone faster. Engine was strongly pulling at 112Mph also.

Just have the following on my bike:

Stage 1
Bassani Firesweep
Nology Spark Plug Wires
XiED's
K&N Intake

Bike runs hard and fast..........

I have cracked mine above 100mph with the wife on back and by myself a few times and still pulling hard... the last time though, had traffic slamming on brakes in front of me... that was fun let me tell ya... an emergency stop while coming off of having a handfull of throttle in 4th after entering the hwy from an onramp.... swwhhhhh ... she started pounding me in the back of the helmet after the successful slow down...lol...

i regularly cruise at 70mph" the scoot luvs 70 at 3krpms" and at times around 80mph especially with the wife, the weight makes it bit better high speed cruising

The fastest though was my since sold pontiac g8 gxp with the corvette ls3 and a6 tranny with just a computer upgrade... around 170 "gps" and still pulling , that car would get it

Went with 120R crate swap this winter. Hit 110 today... in 4th gear...with revs left. So I'm wondering how fast it'll go. And whos been there...
I calculate theoretical top speed 187mph at 6800rpm. That can't be right...
A 120R should do better than 110 in 4th gear. Hell I had mine at that speed in third gear getting ready to shift into 4th. Once I hit 4th gear my speedometer is pegged out at 120 with two gears to go, I don't feel the need to go that fast. My bike has hit 175 on the dyno with a modified 96cu.in motor.

As for riding at those speeds on the roadway is not the smartest thing to do.

To each their own, I enjoy cruising back roads from 55mph to 70mph top speed, and I also like cruising highways at about 75mph give or take 10 mph.

Short bursts/pulls is another thing, I believe a bike should be able to get out of its own way with a quick twist of the throttle.

Yes, I do enjoy the slingshot feel of getting up-to speed, that seat of your pants instant pull. Just no need (anymore) to live out on the edge these days, Although it is a good feeling to know deep down inside oneself that your bike can do it if asked too.

With all of that said;

I am still looking for an 06 rear pulley with a 70 tooth cog. Just to add a touch more pull out of the hole.

As we know, you can easily make the motor push you faster than the bike is designed to go. More HP is better for accelerating, but if you just want to go fast, I have to agree that you are on the wrong brand. Besides not having the suspension and tires for high speed, you also won't have the brakes for it. I enjoy the acceleration, but compared to several other bikes I've had, my FXD is unstable at anything over 80.

Guys, keep in mind that stock speedos are worthless at any speeds higher than 60 mph, that's why they're called hero speedometers - "I went 150! I'm a hero!"
As the current world record holder on high speed miles (the Texas Mile) for twin cylinder bikes I know a little about this subject. In March 2011 we went 192.8, roughly 7 mph shy of our 200 mph goal. Getting to 200, (200.8) which we did in October 2011 took 50 additional horsepower.
Why? Because the aerodynamic drag rises with the square of the velocity, but one must also accelerate, so the power required actually varies as the CUBE of the speed.
Our bike (Team Punisher/AF1 Racing) is a supercharged/nitrous/water meth sprayed Aprilia RSV with an extensive fairing designed by a Phd in turbulent flows and makes 380 rear wheel horsepower on a Factory Pro eddy current dyno.
The next fastest twin (the factory sponsored Victory effort of Roland Sands) went 184 with a turbocharger and nitrous.
Lets get real here, just how fast do you think one of our Harley street bikes with no aerodynamic aids and 100 hp is going to go?
