Alright after a long debate I think I am going to tackle the FXD to FXDB or FXDL tank. I have found the parts list and have some coin so I think I am going to do it. Hopefully one of my final questions to you all, is does anyone know exactly what I will need. I know I can use the fuel pump, speedo but how about bolts and what not. While I have some money I don't have a lot of it. Thanks everyone who contributes. Cheers
i did the swap to a streetbob tank... all the internals of the tank interchanged... alls youll need is the tank, dash and indicator lites...and a repair manual helps... one of the best mods ive done and not really difficult...
Several have done this. I have all the parts sitting here waiting to swap when I have enough money to get the new tank painted/a dent fixed.
I have less than $300 in the whole swap. a little over $400 after body work.
I spent around $120 at zanotti's & $150 on ebay for everything including the new tank.
*warning - i placed my order at zanotti's 2 months ago & just got the last part today. So you'll have to be patient with them.
I cross refernced every part number on the microfiche at ronnie's hd website to find out what I could re-use & what I needed new.
If you buy the complete tank with guts and console for whatever you are going to change to, all you really need is some wire, everything else pretty much bolts right on.
I swapped from the WG to the SG tank, hardest part was the wiring the Dakota Digital and it was not difficult.
You can re-use the gasket for the plate and the bolts, many on here have including myself. Trick is tighten up gradually in stages in a star pattern. It is a fairly thick rubber gasket, so as long as it is not damaged you will be fine.
