Default Stock size Metzler question

I searched, but nothing answered my question.

Is anybody running the Metzler 160/70 - 17 on their Dyna?? Does anyone have a rear pic of it?? Is the Metz 170/60-17 really wider then the 160??

My dilemma is that I am currently running a radial Dunlop 170/60-17 on the rear right now and acquired a wobble after this change. I've done the vehicle alignment, rear wheel alignment, adjusted the fall away, new motor mount and I just haven't been able to get rid of the wobble at around 60-70mph. I can do a quick nudge with nothing on the bars and I get a little wobble, then straightens back up. Nothing scary at this point, I just don't like it. Had the death wobble this last summer with the roll bag and tent mounted to the bars, but was rock solid with the same set up the year before that.

Now that I have done all the alignment adjustments my last line of troubleshooting is swapping out the rear tire, since that's when it all started. When I switched to the 170/60-17 seems it didn't fill the wheel well as much as the stock Dunlop 160/70 on top of gaining the wobble. Looking back at pics too, the 170/60 definitely doesn't fill the rear as good as the stocker. Looks about 1/8 narrower then the stock. In one of the threads when I was searching said the metz 170 was an 1/8 wider then the 160. I may just go back to the stock 160/70 size just to make sure that it either fixes the wobble or rules the tire out, but since I gotta buy a new tire I also would like the widest looking tire for the 17" rims and I want metz. Kind not sure which route to go right now.

On top of the questions above please post pics of either sizes and experiences with them.

Do you have radial;s on both front and rear? Not sure on bikes, but I know years ago that was a very bad idea on cars. Just spitballing...

Yes my front is a radial as well. I think my buddy was running both radials too, but no wobble for him. I may just go back to the 160/70 from metz because it's bias and when I ran the stock Dunlop with my front radial it performed great and no wobbles.

To many damn decisions. The more I read about bias and radials the more it hurts my head! Bias might be the way I have to go to get back to normal.

The one thing on Harley's that I really do not like is Dunlop tires, never had as much faith in them as I always have had with Metzeler.

Yeah, I'm running the 160 ME880 on the rear. Like it so well I ordered a new 880 for the front.

Your bars could be part of the problem. But check for cupping on the Dunlops.

It may just be low air in the tire.I run mine(160/70/17) at 38 lbs.

Cool thanks!! I saw it in his thread. I want to see the difference a 160 metz makes because my Dunlop 170 is not as wide as the stock 160.

Nope not the bars. It didn't do it with the same bars before the tire change. No cupping either and do you have a pic from the rear??

Nope, tried 36, 38 and 40 psi and no change. It actually is easier to start the wobble with the higher tire pressure. Do you have a rear pic of the 160 by any chance??

I just switched to Metzeler on front and rear(160) at the same time. I run them at 40psi and I love the way they handle. I heard you need to run a similar tread pattern on the front and rear or you will get a wobble. I dont know how true it is but it could be part of the problem if your running different brand of tires.
