Picked up a new set of grips and levers for my '11 Fat Bob and the instructions were not as simple as I assumed. Both sets seem to be both vague and cautionary about the throttle side. In fact they say to use the shop manual for instructions (and I don't have that.)
Is this really something I ought to let a mechanic do? I've done it myself on other bikes but the instructions creeped me out a little with all the warnings of a fiery death if I do something wrong and then didn't give the full instructions.
Its a pretty easy install. Don't drop the small brass ferules on the ends of the accel and decel cables. I did and when it hit my concrete floor it bounced somewhere and I never found it. Had to buy a new one. You might even put a sheet or blanket under the bars on the floor so if something does fall it won't bounce.
Also, you'll want to pull the rubber boot back on the throttle cable, break the lock nut loose and then give yourself some slack up at the grip. If you don't do this it is nearly impossibly to get the ferule seated correctly in the grip. With a little patience you should be able to do it.
