Default Making detatchable bags

Seems though I've seen some post about this. I have the rigid mount HD hard leather bags on my fxdc. I want to make them detatchable. I've seen some kits which don't amount to more than a couple bolts and they go for $170 which is insane imo. I'm thinking along the lines of some threaded rod and nuts and then find some type of cover to go over the bolts when the bags are off. Anyone got any pics or info on this subject.

Here is a link to what I did to make a detach solo bag for my ride. I am sure you can get the idea and run with it. I used the Detached mounting hardware sold by HD and used an old detach lever off my old sportster detach brackets. The metal that attaches to the mounting hardware is 1/8" thick and the metal used on the bag is 3/16".

I always need my bags on but it would be cool to be able to take them off for cleaning or just to change the look once in awhile. Those are some interesting ideas you guys suggested. I'm thinking about threaded rod cut to length to replace the stock mounting bolts, putting a jam nut on next once the threaded rod is screwed into the fender the correct amount, mount the bag over the threaded rod and use a fender washer with a nut inside the bag to hold it secure. Then when I want to remove the bag, just unscrew the nut, remove the bag and then get a chrome sleeve or cap of some type if I want to leave the bags off for a bit to cover the threaded rod sticking out of the fender.
