You are correct, I have the one pictured in the upper photo. It does not interfere with my HD foward controls.

I think that dealer probably doesn't know what they are talking about. They do make two different ones as FXD2003Rider showed. I have HD Forwards and the HD engine guard made for forwards and I have no interference.

They are very easy to install, I would order it and install it yourself.
