New Bars For Super Glide?
I'm considering changing out the stock bars for some that will come back a bit, making the ride more comfortable for me. I'm looking closely at the mini-apes that come stock on the Wide Glides. Any feedback on these bars? I definitely like to kick it back a little bit, and the stock bars make me sit a bit more upright than I prefer. Any other bars out there that might work for me, work for the Super Glide (prefer chubby bars so I can internalize the wiring), and still look great?
You might want to consider some pull back risers instead of a complete bar change
Okay, I'll prob. be told I'm wrong on this...but, this is what my dealer told me. They couldn't use a pullback riser without major re-doing on the Super Glide. I could use 10" mini-apes, but they woouldn't be available for about 2 months (this was a month or so ago), so I went with Buckhorns. Helps some and they didn't have to do any wiring or cable changes.
I got to talking with the head wrench and he said he'd seen more than one occassion where somebody started out on a change like I wanted, then saw this and that and pretty soon had $2000 spent on a handlbar change. He also gave me a company that does mowt any kind of handlebar you want and said that they use them when someone wants something different than Harley offers. It is The Flanders Co. They have a nice website, just google Flanders Co.
If you or anyone else knows of a way to inexpensively put a pull back riser on a Super Glide, I sure would like to know, but I was told the only to do it involved major re-do work. Art

One of my buds has a FXDXT and he put pullback risers on, I THINK they are from a softail std. The gauges bolted on, but they stand almost straight up. Not a problem for him since he has the fairing anyway. I've read on another forum where one guy put them on and then took a metal spacer and cut it at an angle, this created an angled surface that layed the gauges back a little. Another option is to use t-bars, you can get them in just about any pullback/rise you want and then get an Accutronix gauge mount adapter to mount the gauges. One good thing about the FXD(X) is that you don't have the tank speedo so you can get a lower bar if you like. If you have someone with t-bars in stock, you can just hold them up on the edge of the top triple tree to get an idea where it will put you hands. Remember that a large difference and you'll need longer cables. Just my $.02.

If you're looking for some pullback without going with too much rise, you might want to check out Wild Ones Chubby bars, they're all chromed, 1.25" and easily take the stock length wiring from the switches. I've attached a couple of photos of my '04 with the WO560's You can follow this link to their home page: http://www.wild1inc.com/ The WO 560's have a final rise of 4" and 14.5" of pullback. I find them very comfortable on short and long rides, plus they look good also. Much more comfortable than stock.

I replaced the bars on my FXDL during my road trip. The only cable change I did was the front brake line. I went with the stock bars from a Duece. My back was cramping up on the long rides so I needed a bit more pullback and wanted a bit more rise. Went to Black Hills HD and talked to a few guys there and then while I was looking at some of the bikes for sale, I saw exactly what I wanted on a '02 FXDL that belonged to the service manager's wife. They tracked down the mods and it turned out that the Duece bars were just what the doctor ordered. I might have been able to use the stock brakeline but as we were staying the night in Custer (50ish miles away) and I would be doing the work there that night, I got a new line to make sure that I would be able to get on the road in the morning.
