I am thinking 12 1/2 inches. Why do you want to lower it?
I heard it will make the ride harsher and will sacrifice
that much appreciated Dyna handling.

If you don't plan on riding aggressively, don't mind taking the corners slower to prevent dragging the pegs, don't mind slowing way down for R/R tracks or road undulations, then you are a candidate for a lowered suspension.

Lots of guys ride hardtails or softtails for the look, and they do look cool, lowered Dynas look pretty sweet, too, so if looks override function for you then go for it.
