I think my service manual for my 05 states 20K for primary and tranny oil. I do it every two oil changes or once a year. I am using Amsoil 20w50 right now... gonna try redline gear oil and primary oil next change.
I am going with Redline fluids this time too...cost almost $80 with a filter.
Hope this is good stuff!
I bought the specific Primary and Transmission fluids...wonder if they are really any different? Just went with their engine oil too.
Well I'm new to big v twins but doesn't the 20-50 mobile 1 v twin oil cover all three when you drain and re fill?
No, putting an automotive motor oil like 20-50 in the primary where your clutch is, is not the best choice. At least thats my opinion. Harley sells primary fluid as does Amsoil and a host of other suppliers and I don't think any of them are 20-50 motor oils.
I use Spectro Gear Guard in the tranny and change once a year, Harley primary fluid in the primary and change once a year and Any 20/50 I can find in the motor and change every 5000.
I change all three at the same time. Why, cause I'm funny that way, its cheap, easy and it can't hurt the bike. I use the Harley tranny/primary fluid and split the bottle in half. Then I add 25% (5 oz on and evo) Lucas oil stabilizer and 25% (5 oz) Mobil1 synthetic gear lube. Works for me.
Holy cow! Are you some kind of chemist?
I change engine oil every 2500 miles, tranny & primary every 5000 miles. I use the harley fluids.
LOL, no. I have just heard so many debates about so many fluids I am determine to include as many as possible in my concoction. That way, if it ever comes out that there truely is a "best", I will probably have been running it all along.
