Here is a pic during our Alaska trip in 09. I bought a rain outfit from HD. It was the second suit up in price at $129.00. Just remembered that was with 20% off when I bought the Buell Ulysses XT to do the ride.
We had rain for 9 days straight and temps to the upper 30's in the mountain areas. I bought a size larger thinking that I would need layers under it.
As it turned out it was warm. The best thing is that I stayed dry. In the past the rain gear that I had would start leaking in after an hour or so. With this suit, I stayed dry all day.
I can't remember the model #. Notice the rain headed into the area in the back ground. That is where we were headed after this stop.
Has any of the vets tried to use military gortex pants and jacket to stay dry on the bike? Why spend money when we were issued items (BDU or DCU) we are no longer "authorizede" to wear! I've been caught in a severe storm on the way home from work with cars parked with me on the side of the road, don't want to do that soaked again...
I did ONE time. Water pooled in my crotch and soaked through. When the sun finally came out it got put back in the bag...looked like I pissed myself for a couple hours. I don't recommend for any length of time.

Nothing with a zipper..pants, that is. Need a good set of solid pants with guards on the legs so you don't melt them. I recommend a two piece set. I've had one-piece suits and they always leak at the zipper into the crotch. Don't remember what brand mine is, but they're good quality, not high-end, and not HD.
I went to Bass Pro and checked out their stuff. Gore Tex must be good if price is an indication. KaChing. The FrogToggs were priced OK, but look like they would do a lot of flapping in the wind. Still undecided.
Starting to look like the HD may not be so over priced after all from the positive reviews.
But today the sun is shinning. So my search will go on.

Do yourself a favor and go with the HD stuff. It's designed specifically for riding in the rain, unlike other gear available from Frog Toggs and outdoor sporting goods stores. HD Hi Vis has served me very well.

Goretex is very good stuff! I have Klim snowmobile gear that I still wear and I haven't had a sled in years. Used to get wet no matter what the conditions when I went to the mountains until I bought that stuff. I am a believer in Goretex! When it's cold out I wear it on the bike being VERY careful where my right leg is when I stop (too expensive to burn them up!).
Rain gear designed for fishing bass, military use, and other uses will not function like rain gear designed specifically for over gear use on motorcycles.
a) motorcycle rain gear should not fit loose or flap in the wind
b) Gortex is great for breath ability but it's capabilities are wasted in rain gear designed to fit over say a leather jacket
Check out www.Revzilla.com I ended up with a yellow ICON PDX Rain Jacket and matching pants. They are pricey but well worth it. The quality of materials is very good. If you are on a budget, then I would suggest what others here are referring you to.
This place carries alot of gear and shipping is free for orders 40 dollars and above. And for every 100 you spend you get 5 dollars in credit for your next order.
@man4mopar: I just joined today and was wondering if there was any possibility of you, perhaps pm'ing me here. After finally finding someone who changed to the springer front end on an 06 wide glide,i would appreciate it if i could perhaps pick ur brain a little bit,as i have been thinking of doing the same on mine, yet had a hard time finding someone who has. I have some questions,as far as the front end you used, how the ride, handling and braking characteristics have changed and,if,overall you are happy with the swap. The shop i will probably use to do the work(no longer have a garage ;-( ) told me to ask you these things before i reach a final decision and any input would be appreciated as well as a rough figure on parts costs. Thanks in advance.
