This won't answer your question, but will give you an ideal of how close you can run.
I went for a ride last week with a friend that recently bought a 2004 Big Dog Chopper. He had a Dunlop 250 on the rear, the same as came on the bike. He was telling me that when he first picked up the bike that he could barely slip a piece of paper between the swingarm and tire on either side. After checking tire pressure, he saw that the tire was only at 30 lbs and the specs called for 45. He inflated the tire to 45 and could now slip 4 pieces of paper on each side of the swingarm!
I had to look to believe it. There was barely any distance on either side, but he was correct, both sides were equally close, it looked to be less that 1/32nd of an inch. Talk about close tolerances and precision parts!
Big Dog is no longer with us, but somewhat close tolerances are still possible with our Harleys, but I'd feel better with at least 25 sheets or 1/8" of clearance.
I'm running a 170/60-17 Screamin Eagle on my 07 SG. Has that lip on the outside that a Metzler doesn't have so it probably looks wider. Fills up the fender up pretty well.
Anyone with an "05" or older try to do this size?I know it fits the 06and up SG with the bigger fenders.I'm worried about the wires and the belt rubbing.
