Default Replacing motor mounts help.

I am asking for a friend with a wide glide. He is replacing the motor mounts appears they are coming apart. Can some one give me a link to a write up on this job? Also should he use oem or another brand? Are there any other things about this job that he should know, etc like other parts that might need to be replaced also. Thanks for the help. Need to get this guy back on the road so we can ride.

Try the "search" button: there have been other threads.

He should have the service and parts manuals.

Edit to add: There are threads on shimming the mounts.

Default Mounts

Use OEM mounts. You will need a scissors jack to support the engine while you change the mounts and only 1 at a time. Follow the manual procedure.

The manuals procedure for doing this are pretty slim. I did an install of a positrak link on my bike and gave some detailed pics of the process. Should help with a motor mount rubber isolator.

Having the bike in a vertical position is important.
Front mount first.
Next, use a scissor/floor jack to support the front of the engine. Take enough weight off the frame until you can remove the bolts by finger. Install front isolator, Locktite & torque the bolts.
Rear mount next.
Same procedure, lift rear of engine until bolts can be remove by finger.

Hopefully, this will eliminate having to realign the motor. If you need to do this, do a seach and you should find the info.

Good Luck, best done with the help of a friend and a few brews.
