Don't know what the width on the nightster fender is, but I do know that the fat bob and wide glide fenders are significantly wider than most other Harley's. It may be that it fits earlier model wide glides. I have a 2010 WG and it's hard to find many options for a different backrest for this bike. I finally ordered the one piece detachable backrest for mine even though originally I didn't want to relocate my turn signals. I finally saw one installed and figured I could live with the relocate (really it's just a different type of mounting stem rather than an actual relocation). Just my .02 worth. Hope this helps.
Sorry, forgot the first part of the question: yes two bolts and the taillights. However, there is a spacer between the fender strut and fender at the front mount of the backrest (both sides) that you need to put back in so the fender doesn't get stretched when you tighten down the bolts. Put it back in even if you remove the backrest and don't replace it with another backrest.
