Default Cam install done

I just finished installing wood tw-555 cams and RB Racing LSR 2-1 exhaust. The bike fired right up and oil pressure light went out right away .... huge smiles (I was kinda nervous and hoping I wouldn't have to tear back into it to fix something, so far so good). Still got a few things to finish up .... install new base map from FuelMoto and my Autotune, a couple of heat shields on the exhaust and Jerzees customs oil pressure guage then good to go.

I gotta thank A-Train and Iclick in the touring forum .... probably wouldn't have tackled it without the inspiration from their write ups (30+ pages with photos) .... I have done tons of wrenching on snowmobiles (2 stroke engine rebuilds, clutching, suspension, etc.) but have never touched a 4 stroke engine before ... I printed all of their write ups and had them in a binder as reference along with the service manual as I worked through it .... awesome, thanks guys!

The LSR exhaust is awesome, well worth the wait (6-8 weeks as they build to order), fit & finish is flawless and install is pretty quick. I chose the "B" style exhaust in black ceramic and I am very happy with how it looks .... seems to complement the Fat Bob much better than my sideshots. The billet exaust gaskets are really cool and they seal really well
My black sideshots are up for sale in the classified section along with brand new FuelMoto quick adjust pushrods which I didn't end up using. Pics coming soon.

I'm with you man, A-Train's cam change thread gave me the courage to take the plunge this past February. There's nothing in that process that requires more than a few specialty tools, a little mechanical aptitude, and some common sense but there's just something about taking a pair of bolt cutters to your pride-n-joy!
Can't wait to see pics of that LSR 2-1, post a video clip too while you're at it. You're gonna like what those triple nickles do for your roll-on above about 2500 RPM.
Enjoy!

Default What a coincidence!

Northern,
I am going to be doing the same install myself soon. I've got the TW555 cam and the RB Racing LSR 2-1 in silver ceramic, but in the C style. Let me know how it feels in the seat of the pants.
I'm still waiting for the bearing removal and installation tool before I can do mine. I am going to replace the INA bearings with Torringtons while I'm inside the cam chest. Did you replace your inner cam bearings or just leave the INA's in?

The cams make a huge difference, the bike feels like it pulls a lot harder now! I did change the inner cam bearings to Torringtons .... figured I may as well while it was apart. Here's a couple of pics of the LSR:

I read through atrain's threads on the subject. Good stuff. Any idea why he pulled the oil pump? Did you?

Maybe it was to take it apart, clean it up, inspect it and fill it up with enough assembly lube to choke a horse. Thats the only reason I can think of.

NB, LSR looks sick! I'd still like to hear it if you can manage a video clip.

BB, I dropped in the torringtons as well, why not while you're in there.

CJ, no need to pull the oil pump, but it just drops right out. A-Train may have just wanted to drop in fresh o-rings. I left mine in and used the oil pump alignment tool when I started putting the cam chest back together.

If anyone is interested in Northern's FM adjustable push rods, I used them on my Fatbob. Installation was straight forward and the quality is exceptional.

Ratbob - I'll try and get a video clip posted this weekend.

CJ - I left my pump in as well and used oil pump alignment screws when putting it back together.

That exhaust is the nicest 2 into 1 I've seen. It looks great on your bike.
Can you post the link to the write up from the touring section?

Thanks,
Mike
