hi everybody! i've got a problem that i haven't seen addressed on any forum anywhere! i have a 96 fxds convertible with 10k miles. as it went over 10k, all of a sudden the odometer went back to 0(zero). it now counts up, so i now have a real low milage bike. what do i do? its not my trip odometer. any suggestions?
If you want a reliable speedo, you're going to have to order a new one from Harley and they will key in the real mileage. You also need to have your ECM checked out for any problems.

As mentioned earlier, I suspect the real mileage was a lot higher than 10K at the time the odometer reset itself to zero.
I'm guessing that the bike was bought used and someone in it's past did some odo tweaking in order to make it "like new" again. This deceptive, dishonest and illegal practice often causes the odo to do strange things at certain turn-over points, in this case 10,000 miles.
Now the bike's actual mileage is a total unknown.
Maybe it's time for a total rebuild anyway, or at least a new top-end. After that is done, just buy a new speedo and start over from zero once again. At least you will now know the mileage on the pistons and bore or whatever you made new again. The new speedo should remain accurate for the life of the bike.
