Default what size windshield should i get?

i'm 5'8" and want a detachable windshield for long trips for my 2010 wide glide. i like the HD quick release compact setups (because they will not leave any hardware on the bike when mostly not in use). Not sure if i shoud get the (58413-06) 18.3 inch above headlight or the (58444-06) 14.3 above headlight? anyone of similar heigth / bike with these windshields?

mang0; you'll want to be looking right over the top while sitting on bike - can you take yours into HD & have them "mock-up" one on the bike for size..?? Spending good coin on this & want to make sure you get correct size.

I have heard the same thing. They say when your sitting on the bike put your hand straight out and that is the height it should be. I think there was a utube video about it.

nice thing about the quick release windshield is that you can move it up and down on the forks.I bought the touring windshield and move it down in nice weather up in nasty weather and it works out fine.

I've got a 2010 FXDWG. I'm 6' 1" and have the 18". Like was said, you have a couple of inches of play. I only use mine on long rides (over 3 hours), and have it as high as it will go (but I still look over top without stretching my neck).

Just sit down and measure it out dude. I would guess the shorter one if you like to see over the top.

I had the HD touring shield on my last Dyna and have the 18" compact HD on my new bike. The touring shield worked much better because it blocks more of the wind coming from below the shield. I did trim about 1.5" off the top of it because I didnt like looking thru it rather than just over the top of it.

I am 5'8" and have the 14" version. A mentioned, you can slide it up or down on the forks a few inches. I have no issues with buffeting.

If you want to try the larger version and dont like it, you can have it cut down with no issues.

The fork mounted HD windshields will have right at 1.5" of up and down adjustment. However, I've discovered that moving it up created a gap between the headlight and windshield that caused too much air turbulence, especially at about 55 and above.

I'd guess that you will want somewhere between 16 and 17 inches. The 14.3 might get you close at the highest setting, but the gap will be huge. The 18.3 will be too tall.

I recommend the 18.3 and then trimming it to the correct height, from it's lowest position. I'd put a few horizontal rows of very thin masking tape or grease marker spaced at 1" intervals, then hit the street. I like to be able to see over the shield and see 50 ft in front of me. See which line provides this view and now you know how tall to trim it.

To trim it, mask it well with wide masking tape. Using a compass or whatever you can devise, you can copy the contour of the top to an inch or 3 beneath it. Now just take a saber saw and make the cut, just don't let the saw's feet touch the windshield, that's what the masking tape is for, Clean it up with a file and sandpaper.

I find myself ducking behind the windshield quite a bit when birds or tossed up stones look like they might be in a collision course with my face. Therefore, I want that windshield to be high enough.
