Hi, I have searched all over the forums and anywhere else on the web that I could think of and I can't seem to find an answer to my question...
I have the quick release docking hardware from a '98 Road Glide (sissy bar, luggage rack) and I want to get a quick release backrest on my '07 FXD. My question is this: Is there any way to use the hardware that I already have and just buy the sissy bar? Are the touring and dyna parts interchangeable or are they incompatible?
Thanks in advance for any help that you may be able to offer,
jld!
The rear docking point that the latch uses (has the wide black plastic section) should be the same. The front one that the fork slips into might be different. All 06 and newer Dynas use a front point that is only about 5/8" long (due to the tapored strut) the older ones used a front point that was 1" long (due to the straight strut). If your front point from your Road Glide is 1" long, you can make it work by slightly bending the sideplates, but that also makes it stick out further. You should be able to get just the front points from your parts guy, instead of having to buy the whole kit. You will have to get different sideplates.
