What were the symptoms of the wore out motor mounts?
Excessive engine shaking at idle, front pipe close or even touching frame down tube or rattling against it, hard shifting, excessive vibration in handlebars at most RPMs.
Just replaced my front mount, even with the new front mount I still had to shim it to line it up properly. It has been wet here in MI so I haven't test rode with the new mount yet, but the old mount with shims gave me more front pipe clearance but still shook a lot at idle, with the new mount i have very little idle vibration so I am assuming that will also transfer to a smoother ride. The old mount was not broken, but the rubber was worn/stretched and I think it had lost a lot of it's elasticity from being pulled forward for so many years with a large preload, the shims should prevent the new one from a preload.
bike vibrated like craxy on decel, look at the rubber man you can see they are bad, it is an 06 plus the motor moved all over
Agreed, i could tell mine was reamed out by looking. When I mentioned it to the shop that screwed up my exhaust install, they said "no way, bike only has 10k miles not even worth checking" they said this before they proceeded to destroy a brand new pipe and my brake pedal. Even with only 10k miles that mount has been preloaded and pulled on for 11 years, it needed to go. Bought the bike in December with 6k, now has 10k, I obviously enjoy riding more than the last guy
Well just got in from the garage and lone behold the front motor mount is trash. I shimmed it first and started the bike and noticed a big difference. The I took a shop light and looked in behind the mount and the rubber is cracked up. Man this bike only has 4k miles on it!! Is Harley doing anything about this for its customers??
Can I shim this for now and wait for a new mount to arrive or is it not safe to ride? And how much is a new mount? ANyone have the part number for me. Guys are my shop are not the brightest and Id rather go in with the number. Is it difficult to replace the mount?
Thanks guys you've been a big help

Part number is 47583-90B and my local dealer had one in stock for $100, it was a few bucks cheaper online a Surdyke but I wanted it now. If you shim the new one when you install it, it should make it last much longer.
I'm in BC and I've never had trouble getting a mount. I've changed mine twice and both times the dealer had them in stock. They told me they sell a lot of Dyna mounts. Just part of how it's designed.
I have not shimmed mine and don't plan on. I don't buy the concept of letting the motor bounce loosely around. It may transfer less vibration that way but if there was some preload pressure designed into that mount it is there for a reason. A bunch of guys on the internet telling me they know more than the Harley engineers is not enough for me to start changing things.
