Default 06 Dyna problem for tech guys

Alright I need help and my MMI education isn't kickin in right now. I went through a huge puddle the other night and the bike started to idle hard and irratic so I shut it down. Tried to restart and no luck so I walked it home 3 miles in a F'ing monsoon. Next day I swapped plugs , checked oil and fired her up after a few tries. Back to idle at 2000 plus and backfiring. Load up the laptop and plug into pc3 to check the map and reload it. No change. I know I'm missing something simple but I'm over tired and have alot goin on and can't put my finger on it. Educated help appreciated ! Thanx

you probably got water in your power commander try taking it out and letting it dry a few days clean the ecm contacts and reinstall

I had a bike that, every time it rained, would act like that because water would get to the air filter. Just something to check.

I would try eliminating the PC first. It's easy to do by simply unplugging it. I've heard of them acting up when they get water intrusion. When I installed mine on my Dyna I placed it under the seat. It took some relocating of the factory wiring but it now sits vertically under my seat and all the openings have been covered with electrical tape. Hopefully this will make it less likely to get wet.

I had a similar problem, it was water in the connector from my ECM to the PCIII. I had to pull the connectors apart to get it to try out. I do not mean simply unplug it, I mean I actually had to split the connector open to let it dry. When I put it back together I coated everything in dielectric grease and a good layer of tape. I have not had the problem again.

+1

Water seems to run right into those PCIII connectors.

Yup I just pulled the brains outa the bike and water poured out of the connectors, letting it sit in the sun to air out. Shouldn't take to long since it's 95 out today. Haven't had to deal with moisture issues much after living in the desert last few years, gotta love Michigan. Thanx for the advice.

Just put it all back together an reloaded map. Back to normal. Definatly time to consider making those
connectors more water resistant

squeeze in a **** load of dielectric grease
I event went a step further and zip tied some Ziploc bags around each connector and the PCIII unit itself.

Glad you were able to figure it out. I ended up having to split the connector and dry it out on the side of the interstate. It was missing and popping so bad I was concerned I was going to do damage to the motor if I rode all the way home. I still have not figured out why a company, knowing a connector could be exposed to the elements, would design a connector that was not at least a little resistant to allow water in.
