Lots of funny responses which I expected and appreciate as well as the serious ones. General consenses is it seems it doesn't matter. With the complicted electricial systems the 2011 Dyna's have with computers controlling the engine management, fuel injection and electronic security systems I just wanted to be sure. Since I already got stranded by pressing the stop button and forgetting to turn the ignition off I'll keep turning it off by the ignition switch on the tank. Thanks to all.

I just lay mine on the ground and wait for all the fuel to run out then it stops

The engine doesn't know or care whether you use the kill switch or the ignition switch.

I have always used the stop switch first. Then the ignition switch. Have done that on all my harleys. Never had any problems leaving the ignition switch on. Hit the stop switch turn the ignition off. 1, 2 it's that simple

I had a mechanic at the dealer a couple years ago tell me to use the kill switch first after he saw me just using the ignition switch to shut my bike off. He said to always use the kill switch because just turning off the ignition switch screws up the electronics. He was serious, and is a very good, very experienced, HD mechanic, so I don't know, I don't think he was just blowing smoke. I use the kill switch first, just in case.

Blowin' smoke. And by the way, Harleys don't have complicated electronics. These fuel injection systems have got to be one of the most basic ones out there. The 2011 Soft Tail is getting there with the new CANBUS system but it's not anything new on the market. Cars and other bikes have been doing it this way for some time now.

I ride it until it runs out of gas then call the OL and tell where to bring the trailer to.
