Default How do you turn off your Dyna?

Maybe a stupid question but the Owners manual for my 2011 Dyna SG says to turn the motor off using the stop switch on the handlebar next to the brake then the ignition switch on the tank. I don't like doing this because I forgot to turn off the ignition once and that leaves the lights on and my battery died. Is it necessary to turn the motor off using the stop switch first or can I just turn the ignition switch to shut it off.

When I park, I just leave it in gear, then dump the clutch, it might take a couple of times to get use to it.

Supposedly you always use the kill switch to shut off the motorcycle so that both hands are on the bars and you are in full control of the vehicle until the engine is shut down. You can then shut of the ignition switch.

You HAVE to hit the kill switch, after flashing the highbeams, then, after you hit the kill switch, BEFORE you turn the ignition off, you must use the left blinker, let it flash twice, then the right, let it flash 3 times, then turn off the ignition. Otherwise, you'll void the warranty

I just put it in neutral and use the ignition switch. Don't think it makes much difference either way.

I am not sure how true it is or not and what the difference really would be....But dealer told me to use the kill switch on handlebars because using the ignition switch on counsel will fowl your plugs faster.

On the 2011's you don't need to use the key if you have the key fob with security. I have been just turning the ignition to the off position and walking away. Bike won't start unless the key fob is within 2 feet. Just concerns me that the manual states to use the stop switch first. Seems dumb to me and can leed to you forgetting to turn the ignition switch off..... which equals a dead battery.
