Ok guys so here is my delima. I was wanting taller than the stock 10.5" mini apes for my 07 street bob and I am set on a set of evil apes. My question is how tall can I go with stock controls (wiring cable lengths etc). If anyone has done this before please let me know what you had to do to accommodate the taller bars.
With the stock wiring and cables you can go 12"-14" depending on the style of bars. In my case I went with 14" Santee 1 1/4" bars on 1.5" RSD risers. The wiring was plenty long even when internally wired. On my particular bars the clutch and throttle cables were not long enough. I went with +4 for those. My brake line was long enough in the stock length.
The brake line was what I was worried about the most. It is bolted to the underside of the lower triple tree. It looks like I'd have to let it hang loose if I were to go taller
The brake line fit (with a little bending) when we put the 14"apes on mine. The throttle and idle cables needed a little bending at the elbows also. The clutch cable barely fit.
Here's a pic of the bars with all stock cables and lines on it.
The clutch cable and brake line have both been replaced since that pic. I went with the HD Diamond black clutch cable and a Magnum Black Pearl brake line.
