To me, having a bike is like having a saving account you can enjoy instead of watching ur money sit in a bank. if you can afford one buy it and enjoy it and when times get hard and family comes first sell it til things get better. I'm a single dad with a 9 yr old daughter I have full time so I have been thru this a couple of times.

This will be the third time I sold a toy. When I was 19 I sold my 10 second all motor Honda so I could move into a townhouse with my wife, and then when I was 24 I sold my 68 Chevelle before my son was born.
Just venting to the people I have spent the last few months getting to know. I will be back, gonna be looking for a new job or any way to get better situated financially. When I do buy another bike eventually, it will be another Dyna. I am only 26, so I have plenty of time to enjoy it. Our daughter will be 18 when I am 44, so I can make a sick bike once the kids move out!

You are only 26 and complaining about selling your toys!! This sounds like bragging. When I was 26, only thing mattered was finishing my degree and build a life with a strong base. I had no toys, no bike, no car, made just enough money to live on with bunch of roommates (fixed houses as we lived in them so did not have to pay rent) and pay for my tuition (and books)..

darkcvc: It sounds like you've been down this road a few other times (ie: selling other toys and being responsible). As history has shown, you will get another toy when the time is right. This is just a "blip" on the radar screen. Enjoy the family for now, get financially solid, those are ultimately more important than a bike.

You should meet a few of the guys I work with. They patrol open sewers 7,000 miles away in 120 degree heat everyday...carrying about 60 pounds of armor and gear. And when they're done, they sit in a CHU hoping rockets don't hit them. Might make you feel better about your life.

you're making the right decision, don't let anyone tell you toys are more important that family. good luck in your endeavors and i hope you find yourself back on two wheels again sooner rather than later.

If you have to get rid of the bike, then you have to. I assume you already considered reducing other bills first. I know I could do without Cable TV and Broadband Internet before I would get rid of the bike.

Lame response. They signed up for it, I do not feel bad for anyone in the military. Dude just feels bad about having to sell his bike, as would I. Not everything needs to be compared to "heroes" protecting our "freedom" ... or whatever it is we are doing in the middle east.Originally Posted by kev6212
