Lame response. They signed up for it, I do not feel bad for anyone in the military. Dude just feels bad about having to sell his bike, as would I. Not everything needs to be compared to "heroes" protecting our "freedom" ... or whatever it is we are doing in the middle east.
....and yes, I spent some time over there as well. No big deal, sevaral hundred thousand others have done the same.
So you are saying the OP did not "sign up" for what he has...that his toys magically dropped in his lap and he wasn't expecting to pay for them? It sucks he has to sell his bike, but, like most of us at some point in our life, he pulled the trigger on a few toys that he couldn't afford. At least he did it earlier than later. Now he's the wiser for it so he can build his dreambike later on.
Sorry I touched a nerve with the military for you. Sounds like it didn't treat you well.
You are doing the right think if for you it makes financial sense at this point. They are toys and come and go. There are always better ones to be bought later in life. I have sold tons of toys in down economic times over the years. You are young and as you get older you get a little less attached if they have to go. I have been unemployed now for almost 11 months and feel your pain with the economy. Be thankful you at least have a job currently. It's a much tougher economy if you DIDN'T have your job. I have a degree and 18 successful years in my industry and still have difficulty in this economy finding a job. Things could be worse, be thankful for your family and home. Keep your chin up!
+1 But you have to do what is right for you. Best of luck.
I like to eat regular, like to have a roof over my head and need to keep my job.
I live too far from my job to walk and I'm not riding a bicycle.

Been there and done that and yes it sucks! But, a man has to do what he has to do to protect and provide for his families well being. The wife and I both lost our jobs 4 days apart. Luckily, it actually happened just before the economy took it's grand fall so we managed to position ourselves for the rough ride before millions unfortunately joined the club. The good news is, with some real commitment to going without the extras and having sold all the toys, it gets better. Now, even with the economy still down we are back in a house that is bigger with more land than the first and are back in the wind...and we count our blessings everyday. Keep a positive outlook it does get better.
My wife and kids split on me. I guess I spent too much time in those sandy hell-holes, and was never much fun when I got home. I bought the bike, and my only regret is that I gave up riding when my kids were born. I missed all those years, and my kids love riding with me on my bike. It's brought us closer than anything else for all those years.
Sold my 09 Streetglide that I had 6G's invested in with accessories. The guy that got it got a steal. But you gotta survive and take care of what's more important. Time passes and things change. I bought a New bike and while I miss the old I am having a great time on the New.
