First...I missed the steal of a deal on the .38 special billet grips here yesterday! Ugh!
This isn't a ground up build, basically I simply chose "Ruger" as the theme for the transformation on my recently acquired 04 FXD...based on the fact that I am a certified, card carrying Ruger nut!
First plan is to design and build my own bars, with will consist of 2 side plates laser cut out of steel plate in a "ram horn" type profile that will have the feel of 14" apes. Side plates will accept a 1" lower bar to rest in the trees, and of course 2 upper pieces of tube for the grips/controls. Side plates will be drilled to accept empty but otherwise complete .357 cartridges that will be mounted thru said holes (primer side out...bullet side in). Thinking about a laser cut Ruger Phoenix that could be welded in between the bar sideplates...but not sure how much that obstruct my view.
I'd really like to find some stainless single or double action Ruger cylinders for turn signals...with LED lights inserted in the chambers.
Bike will be painted red, and engine covers, possibly the fork lowers, breather cover, ect...will be powdercoated either red or black.
I'd be very interested in any other ideas that any of you would care to suggest.
I like the idea of the turn signals, might look at blackpowder revolver cylinders they will probably be cheaper.
I am a ruger fan also and always liked the black logo with the red phoenix. That color combo always looks good in bikes.
Good luck on the modifications

Thought I might have the derby cover engraved with that logo!

Can't wait to see it. I have a buddy over in that area that is, like you, a certified "Ugly Old Red Chicken" nut!
Personally, I think you'll be able to save a ton of money if you have some good machinist make fake parts for you out of aluminum.

Great idea. I love ruger, I've got 5 of em in my safe. How about modding the kickstand to look like a barrel with a trigger guard and grip of an ol wheel gun as the baseplate? Just brainstorming. Hope it comes out well.
P.S. The ruger firebird logo went from black to red to black and silver after Bill Ruger's death. Maybe both logos on the bike some where.
Couldn't you make the 6-shooter cylinders out of a more inexpensive revolver, like a toy gun? Do they even make toy guns with revolving cylinders anymore? If not, you can buy fairly cheap non-firing replicas, mostly SAA Colt .45's, though.
