Default 2nd gear issue

Hey guys. I've had this issue for a while but its never seemed too serious. But now its really just starting to aggravate the **** out of me. My transmission shift fine into every gear except for 2nd. Sometimes I can get it in the sweet spot and I have zero issue but most times ill try to get it into 2nd and it will slip down into neutral or if im moving very slow it will slip down between gears to wear it makes a grinding noise. If I shift down to second its fine but shifting up I almost always have this problem. Its a real pain in the *** when going through an intersection. Anyone have insight on this. I just skip shift most of the time now but id like to be able to ride without doing it. Thanks.

My snd gear is doing the same thing. Either i get neutral or it shifts like the clutch isnt disengaged and then slams into 2nd. I think the SE compemsator might sort this issue out but i never really asked about it.

I had the same issue, it turned out that on the countershaft, the securing segment (1 of the 2) was crushed, on 2nd gear, its a lot of crap to get to the trans, and messy cuz you gotta drain oil tank, primary and the trans fluid,
you will need to pull inner primary to get access to the bearing that holds the mainshaft of the trans in place, trapdoor comes off,you probably will want to check the door bearings, then ya can take out the cassette from the casing,
I’ve got the trans shifting as it should, after 3 take a part & put back together,
but now I’ve got shifter pawl issues that I am dealing with! Synthetic oil is now in my blood!!lol,
that’s what I can offer as my 2cents.
what a life!!!
good luck with your issue!
any advice for my issue would be appreciated & taken note.

Start you own thread.. This one is 14 years old. FWIW, sounds like you need to take it to a shop to fix your screw ups.

Classic second gear problem. It's almost certainly a worn shift fork or a damaged engagement dogs on the gear itself. The transmission needs to come out for a rebuild.
