My upper belt guard has quite a bit of paint rubbed off from the use of a solo bag.
The belt guard really looks like crap now. Thought it might look better without it...certainly less expensive than repainting.
Has anyone removed either one or both of your belt guards? My lower belt guard is plastic for gosh sake.
Really, what are the chances of anything negative occurring as a result of removing the guards?
Any thoughts?
Can only share the experience of a friend who ran without and for what ever reason the belt came apart one day and he lost a large part of his calf that put him on the sidelines for several weeks.
I use to run without myself until I heard that story and put them back on. He was (is) an extremely aggressive rider that I'm sure played a part. I ride aggresively at times with the occasional burn out but decided that the "look" wasn't worth the risk.
Jim, the upper one is only there for show, IMHO, to hide the belt and remind us of those ancient chains and the muck they used to throw off! Belts need the lower guard for protection, to keep stuff getting between the belt and pulley, which is where any damage is most likely to happen.
