Default Anyone ride without their belt guards?

My upper belt guard has quite a bit of paint rubbed off from the use of a solo bag.

The belt guard really looks like crap now. Thought it might look better without it...certainly less expensive than repainting.

Has anyone removed either one or both of your belt guards? My lower belt guard is plastic for gosh sake.

Really, what are the chances of anything negative occurring as a result of removing the guards?

Any thoughts?

This subject comes around every now and then! My Glide has saddlebags and there is no top guard on any of the bikes with stock bags. But I will not remove the lower guard, as that is the one that helps protect the belt and pulley from collecting stones and hence risking damage to the belt.

However plenty of owners run without any guards, so what do I know?!

took my upper off after reading on here that it wasn't to necessary, like the look a lot better.
From what i read, the op said that his bag rubs on the guard, with no guard wouldn't the bag rub on the belt???

Guard=protection, hence the name guard.

What's not to understand,unless you are going for that bobbed look.

Belt guards were one of the first things to come off of my bike. I haven't had any problems. On the other hand, if your guard is rubbing on your bag and you remove it, your belt is going to be rubbing on your bag. Might be a problem for your bag.

It's illegal in some states not to have a belt guard.

I actaully like the look of my belt guards and they do serve a purpose so mine will remain on if at all possible. (Lowering the bike a tad so not sure if top one needs to go or not)

Mine came off as soon as I got the bike home. No issues in two years.

I removed my belt guard on my Ultra. The very next ride I met a guy who rides an old Sportster. I don't remember the year. Anyway it has a **** on the right side of the center console to reset his odometer. The damn ****/stem vibrated off the odometer, bounced off his leg and went into the belt area while riding. The pulley pushed it into the belt where it stayed. He recovered the ****/ stem. Had to buy a new belt of course. Cost $200. I went home and reinstalled my guard.
