I went with 13.5" Ricors, but I thought that Ohlins were twice the price.
Depends which Öhlins you're talking about, of course. On my Sporty I got the basic Öhlins emulsion shocks, and they were significantly cheaper than Progressive 440s (which use the IAS technology licensed from Ricor), and were way better.
I went from the stock 12" Street Bob shocks to the Progressive 11 1/2" 440 shocks to just "slightly" lower the bike...I also raised the fork tubes to measure 3/4" from the top to try and equally lower the front end 1/2" to try and keep a bit quicker steering geometry. I also have SE HD fork oil for a firmer front end and to reduce fork dive when applying the front brakes hard.
It has worked out well for me, the bike handles real well and no problems at higher speeds, but I can notice the difference with a bit less shock travel. I ride strictly solo and weigh 180lbs.
IMO, when going to a shorter shock, it WILL reduce riding comfort...no way to get around it.
