counter balencers suck up a little hp, but I don't think you will notice a difference in the pulling power of either. I had a heritage softail and it ran great, but never felt like a harley to me...tomp dd50

Default Balanced Engines

I think the HP is the same but they are down 3-4 Ft Lbs of torque.

There's also the difference in weight. The counter balancer is heavier, and overall the softails weigh more than dynas, maybe about 75 lbs. or so.

Decked out Softails like the Heritage weigh a lot more than a Dyna, and they feel less powerful due the added weight, the lack of vibration, and maybe to a small degree the power lost to the counterbalancers. A Dyna will outrun a Heritage mostly due to the weight difference.

If you could put a counter balanced 96 in a Dyna, and compared it to a rubber mounted Dyna, I don't think you'd be able to see much difference in their actual performance.

According to Harley-Davidson, the 96 engine produces 92 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm. The 96B produces an additional 1.7 pound-feet of torque at the same rpm.

You have it backwards. The B (for "balanced") in the Softail has less torque than the standard motor (the dyna and touring motor).

Nope, I've checked it and that's what it is. Right from their website. 127 Nm in the softail (96B), and 123 Nm in the Dyna (96A)

Look at the torque specs on the 2012 103 engines...I compared the 2012 Dyna Switchback and the Heritage Softail both have the 103.

You are comparing the 96 cu in from the Dynas to the 103 of the Sloptails. Wonder why there is a difference ?
