Completed 300 mile one day ride to see the Shannadoa's yesterday. Round trip fron Rich, Va to Winchester via RT, 17. RT 95. RT 522. and RT 33. On my FXD.
Was on the Chilley side but the senery made up for the cooler temps.
The FXD preformed flawlessly, (wish I could say same about rider lol)
Saw a Road King, about 3pm, it seemed to be riding along just good.
I know,..Not much help on your choice, Yet the only way you'll find out is to Ride!

Over the last two years I've made 14 700 plus mile days on my Fat Bob, with Corbin seats (two trips on the Dual Tour, one on the Classic Solo) and saddlebags. I've had a few 800 plus days in there. It's such a blast. Eighty plus miles is smooth and solid.

But then is third gear around town. Last night coming home after the traffic died down I was able to go a four mile stretch of city drive and only hit two red lights. Lots of third gear excitement with the Fat Bob. Just love the feel and the way the throttle regulates it all.

No wrong choice here. For serious 2 up riding get the King. In '09 I did the BRP with my RK, 2 up, fully loaded, 2,500 miles. We were totally comfortable and it ran like a swiss watch.

You could also buy new I just got the new Dyna Switchback FLD. It has the FL style front end and smaller hard bags that come off. Two months and I've already got 3000 miles on it. Just can't stop riding it. Its great for solo and 2up riding. Of course the price is higher. I'm all about apples and oranges, but lets thow in some Lettuce too. Ok hope I made it even harder.

I've always loved the looks of the Road King Classic's and was seriously considering picking up a used one but I went with a Dyna. If I was only riding solo I would still be on a Sportster, I prefer nimble handling and a lighter weight bike. Either way you can't lose though. You could ride the bike for a year and sell it if you want to go the other way and probably break even. There's always going to be late model bikes around for sale. Just don't look at Craigslist after you buy. A better deal always seems to pop up after you've already bought something!

road king aint got **** on my FLD dyna switchback
haul more crap around no problem but they are big and heavy
I got an 05 electraglide too. so, I think I know what I am talking about.
do you ride 100 plus miles everytime you get on the bike? get a king
do you ride for daily transpo and occasionally go on a long trip? get a dyna with bags or throw bags on it you won't be dissapointed I am blown away how much nicer it is to cut through traffic on a dyna instead of a touring bike

I looked at both the RK and the Dyna Custom, before buying this year. As I've already owned a Street Glide and Road Glide, I decided on the Dyna, remembering the heavier weight and slower handling of the touring models. I'm glad I did, with no regrets...

With a windshield and throw over bags, the Dyna will cruze 70+mph all day long, very comfortably, one up...dd50 tomp

I never bothered to look twice at touring models except the Road King Classic.

For my style of riding solo and seldom any long haulers the FLD hit the spot,
however after 500 miles on mine I wouldn’t hesitate going cross country.
I fell in love with it first time I seen the FLD, the rest was pure gravy.

I've owned both and now I drive a Dyna. The RK was great on a trip and taking the wife but can't beat the Dyna for around town and the occasional trip..
Besides that the wife won't let me keep two bikes anymore
