I love the look of the drag bar on tall risers seems like that would give you a bit more flexibility than a T-bar since you could change to different size risers without messing with your wiring or cables and the drag bar can be adjusted some as well.

Yah, the inflexibility of the T-bars is their biggest downfall. They either fit, if you are lucky, or they don't and it'll bug you if they don't. As they are quite expensive you really have to be lucky to get that perfect fit. I would not say either they or drag bars on risers are a relaxed "comfort" bar, but more of an aggressive rider's bar. A bit more pull back and a little down on the bar ends usually fit better and stop your elbows from sticking out so, yes, Sportster bars on risers etc is a fair compromise and you can pick a choice of them up cheaply to find the right position.

What is your aim here ... form or function?

I have 8" up 5" back T-bar on an FLHR to lean me forward for more high speed and aggressive (controlled) riding. I am not a fan of too much downward dropping grips as I've experienced potholes knock my hand off the grip, especially in the wet!

Mine are also 1 1/2" internally wired which I think might have been H-D originally. They are *very* heavy and with the pull back really need upgraded triple tree dampeners. Most comfortable I've ever had are the Heritage Softail style mini-apes the police use, probably just for that reason.
