Your apes! I want them! They Carlini Menace right? How tall did you get 'em? How much longer did you have to get the cables? +4 ?
Haha you've said that before! Ya they are the carlini menace apes in 14" Im 6' 2" and i just put them on this winter only rode about 10 minutes with them and I will definitely have to get used to the height but I love them! I went with +4 clutch, idle, and throttle...+2 brake Could have done +4 tho
So after reading through all the forums I'm going to attempt putting 12" apes on my 11' bob by myself. I've read a lot of people saying there's plenty of wire....can anybody let me know if wire extensions will be nessacary.
I have an 06 bob and just bought 14s. Ive heard mixed reviews, some say u need the extension and some dont. Any insight ?
Even if you can get by without extensions, it's going to pull the wires tighter around the steering head. When I put Street Bob bars on my Super Glide, it worked but the wires being tighter around the head always bothered me. So when I went up to 16" bars, like I wanted to in the first place, but avoided because I didn't want to mess with the wires, I soldered in extensions and now the wires lay around the steering head like they did stock. Feels and looks much more satisfying to me.
But if I had to do it again, I would just by new switch modules from Harley or aftermarket. They come with 5 ft of wire. That way you also freshen up the modules at the same time.
Also, you'll need to know how to remove the connectors from the wire looms and reinstall them if you want internal wiring. Pro tip, if you unclipped a wire from a connector, but then you can seem to pull it out, the pin probably rotated around inside the connector. So turn the wire 90 degrees at a time and try pulling until it comes free.
