I have a 2008 Dyna Super glide, and have made 7 trips from Florida up to South Jersey and back with no comfort problems....2 of the trips were non stop 1100 miles in 22 hours, one for a funeral, and one to watch the Philadelphia Flyers play in the Stanley cup finals in Philly.

I have quick release hard bags, detachable sissy bar, and a detachable wind screen.....Also a Mustang seat with a back rest.....It literally takes me about 10 minutes to go from a stock super glide to a touring bike set up.....Once i get up to Jersey, it takes 10 minute's to go back to the stock configuration if i want to.....Bike now has 40k miles on it, and its been a very reliable machine....This bike can pretty much do it all in my opinion.

Ridden both a Dyna and my Softail on long rides...only difference is slightly more vibes out of the Dyna, but still very comfortable.

Default Long Rides on a Dyna

There is no question that you can ride all day on a Dyna. The only Must is a windshield of some kind, depending on what kind of helmet you wear. I wear a full face and use a Flyscreen just to take the wind pressure off my chest. If you wear an open helmet you probably want a full windshield. The wind pressure on your chest will tire you out trying to hold onto the bars.
I did a 4200 mile trip to Laguna Seca, the long way there and the long way home in 2010, with camping gear, and never had a single issue. This July/August I went with 2 friends to Sturgis (4400 miles), again the long way there and the long way home. The first day was 518 miles, no problem. After 12 days (we were riding around Sturgis for 6 of those days) my buddies wanted to go home and I wanted to keep going. One was on a 2011 Street Glide and the other was on a 2011 Road Glide. I never once envied them. Dyna's are very happy rolling along.

I generally average 700 mile days when I do long trips on the Dyna (Austin to Cleveland mostly) with a half-helmet or no helmet, no windshield (I've never owned a bike with a windshield or fairing in 33 years of riding). The Corbin Dual Tour or Corbin Classic Solo seats I have are a big benefit. I have saddlebags as well, as I don't have any other vehicle and my Dyna is my daily user. You can definitely tour on a Dyna.

Rode from uk to Spain a couple of years ago on my fat bob with no windshield, stock seat, and old bags strapped on back. After hanging on for 600 miles a day was ready for bed at end of every day. Done same trip September with windshield better padding in seat and saddlebags and made it much more enjoyable. Still get aches and pains after 5 hours but can carry on. Plus well up for few beers at end of day!!!

Le Gras, (with respect) you are one serious hard ***. You must have the upper body strength of Arnold Schwarzenegger. I don't even like riding locally without at least a flyscreen on because of the wind trying to pull my hands off the bars at anything over 55 mph.
I would think the beer would taste pretty damn good at the end of the day though.
Cheers,
Don

Well, I'm not a body builder, I'm a regular guy, who began riding dirt bikes and street bikes by by age 23, and rode bikes for pleasure and for transportation. Since 1979 I've only owned and driven a car seven years. I don't personally feel it takes a lot of strength to pilot a motorcycle without a windshield of fairing, it may take a bit of conditioning, and it takes a state of mind, the sort of "I can do this" state of mind. I LIKE the feeling of the wind against me, that's an appeal to me of riding. I've lived in Texas since early 1980 and all my family is in Ohio and Virginia and when I can I travel to see them on a bike. Doing this for so many years it's like second nature to me. I have the gear, I have the experience and I have the desire. I'm not a weakling, but I'm not a brute either, I'm 5'11" and 225 pounds and though in the 'eighties and up to the mid-'nineties I had a physical job (and also played drums many of those years) I've been in an office chair or a recliner since. I think anyone can do this if they want to and put their mind to it.

I rarely travel over 75 mph and the wind isn't kicking my *** at these speeds. And. . . well I don't drink really, so I'm not sure how the beer tastes. But I get plenty of rest and get on the bike and do it again. The last few years I've been making trips to Cleveland and back . . . two day trip to and two day trip back. It's exhilarating and I get in these incredible states of mind and well-being in the process. Over time you learn how to set up the ergonomics of your motorcycle to keep you safe and comfortable enough, learn how to pack and plan and clothe and equip yourself, and it becomes even more fun and satisfying.

I guess it's not for everyone, but I love it. If I'd started out with windshields and fairing perhaps it would all be different, but my riding mentor in the 'seventies, Bill Grinell, never used them and I never wanted to. . . .

PS: "Robert Le Gras" is my take on "Fat Bob," a French translation. I'm really "Lon". . .hardly Arnold!

Hey Rog, I really like the looks of 48s and I like what you've done with yours.

Having to stop every 100mi to fill up would annoy me. Hell, I'm thinking on getting a RK tank for my bike! I really like your bike tho (although I told you before in the sporty section).
